Believe in Being an Innovator

Years ago Walt Disney made a very simple statement, “I believe in being an innovator.” That was way before the leadership world or the business world or even the entertainment world even considered its transformative power.

The Business Dictionary defines innovation as the process of translating an idea or invention into a good or service that creates value or for which customers will pay. To be called an innovation, an idea must be replicable at an economical cost and must satisfy a specific need.

Innovation is truly remarkable. It is defined as creating new value and/or capturing value in a new way. Innovation requires implementation of the inventive act. Innovation also implies a value system that seeks to derive a positive outcome from the inventive act. One way to think about this is connecting the dots.

Fast Company speaker, David Brier believes it all comes down to dots. “I concluded that this was the single difference between the innovator and the ordinary person: one saw the dots and connected them while others 1) didn’t see them or 2) if they did, they didn’t explore, question, or connect any of them.”

As part of helping our clients to refresh and realign, our coaches ask “How am I helping my client connect the dots?

We believe there is a direct connection between innovation and inspiration. Taken together they can help reveal or illuminate an unanticipated and unexpected truth that truly transforms the way your client thinks.

At American Strengths Center we believe true success is about moving forward and exploring new, unchartered territory – we believe our clients need to be free to try new things, take risks, experiment and innovate.

We believe that ultimately, innovation comes down to changing the way we think and learning to see the world differently. No easy task, but it can be done. A coach who helps a client make it a habit will help the client reap the rewards that ongoing innovation can bring.

One of our coaching aims is to help our clients consider innovation as a means to developing solutions needed to complete the journey. We help them refresh their thinking and then make adjustments to be fully aligned as they move closer to their desired destination.

We leverage a number of best practice leader & team innovation tools. We also utilizes a number of tools that American Strengths Center has developed that have had great impact with Organizations, Universities, Non-Profits, Faith Communities, & the U.S. Military. They are fast becoming best practice resources.

IMPROV Innovation

Spontaneous Preparation & the Art of the Leader Coach

IMPROV is performing without a script; it is spontaneous invention (in the form of acting, singing, playing musical instruments, etc.) that is often needed to create something entirely new and unique.  Real IMPROV requires preparation, and often practice, to develop the ability to act and react in the moment.

True success is about moving forward and exploring new, unchartered territory – to be free to try new things, take risks, and experiment. Innovation is the primary ‘driver’ for moving forward and creating organic growth.

We firmly believe that most spontaneous coaches in the world are the most prepared. We are big fans of comedians. Their delivery is remarkable. We believe the IMPROV INNOVATION has the potential to break through the ‘white noise.’  The idea is that every day, every one of us is doing Improv and Innovating in more ways than we know.  We unpack the 6 essential steps to Improv and dive into how master & coach innovation.
